Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1976 Under Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 and biogeographical province 4.8.4 (Indus-Ganges Monsoon Forest). The Sanctuary is spread in area about 244.66 sq km. Mainly flat and hilly terrain. Altitude ranges from 265-400m.The vegetation is Tropical dry deciduous forest with teak, bamboo, Terminalia and other miscellaneous species.
Tiger Panthera tigris, jungle cat Felis chaus, striped Hyaena , jackal Canis aureus, Indian wild dog Cuon alpinus, sloth bear Melursus ursinus), chital Axis axis, sambar Cervus unicolor, nilgai Boselaphus tragocamelus, four-horned antelope Tetracerus quadricornis, chinkara (mountain gazelle) Gazella gazella, muntjac Muntiacus muntjak, wild boar Sus scrofa, gaur Bos guarus and others.
